Our sports clubs aren’t just for Curtin students – everyone is welcome. All of our clubs have various levels, with women’s, men’s and/or juniors’ teams available.

Aikido (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

Seibu no Dojo – Aikido is an associated club with the Curtin University.

The club is an Aikido Martial Arts School that practices and teaches self-defence martial arts, namely Aikido, to all who wish to learn, whilst keeping within the traditions of Aikido.

Students are from all backgrounds, ethnic and religious origins – they do not discriminate except for the starting age being 13 years old.

The club is affiliated directly with Nampou Dojo in Chile which is under the banner of Sansuikai International headed by Yamada shihan operating in all America.

Training times

Wednesday night from 6:50 pm to 8:30 pm, Friday night from 6:50 pm to 8:30 pm and sometimes a casual session in Hyde Park on Saturday mornings from 10:00 am.

The club operates at a leased air conditioned sports hall at the Perron Centre, run by Visibility (Blind and Deaf Society), at 61 Kitchener Avenue, Victoria Park. (Opposite Victoria Park train station.)

Membership price

The first lesson is free, to try it out.

The club is offering special monthly rates for students and staff of Curtin University.

For students $40 per month and $70 per month for staff, being a 20% discount in both cases.

Australian Rules Football - AFL (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

Playing football on campus for 50 years, Curtin Wesley offers a truly Australian experience for those of all abilities. Our senior grade is one of the premier teams in the WA Amateur Football League, which is highly competitive and the strongest league in Perth, outside of the WAFL. Our club consists of 5 senior teams (B Grade, B Reserves, D1 Grade, D1 Reserves and E2 Grade), 2 colts (under 21s) teams and 1 Women’s team.

You don’t have to be from Curtin or a student to join the club, anyone is welcome.

Training times

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30pm at South Oval from February through to October.

With Monday training for our colts and women’s teams, Tuesday for our senior men’s and Thursday for all.

How to join

New players can turn up on any training night and speak to one of our coaches, our club manager or registrar. Bring some sports shoes or football boots because you are welcome to have a training run on your first night down. The club can also be contacted via:

American Football (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

The Curtin Saints American Football Club is a community based club with a strong focus on growing the sport of Gridiron. The Curtin Saints have competitions for seniors, women’s and under 19’s. The Curtin Saints like to make sure all their players have a fun and fair game and that everyone participates!

The club is the largest club in Gridiron West and one of the largest clubs in Australia with over 150 players.

Badminton (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

Curtin Dynamic Flames Badminton Club was founded in 1985 and is well established with over 300 members playing at a range of centres across Perth.

The club encourages players of all skill level and provides free badminton coaching services by nationally qualified badminton coaches.

The Badminton Club’s training season runs from March to November with weekly training sessions.

Cheerleading (Men's, Women's)

The Curtin University Cheerleading Club is a welcoming and encouraging cheerleading club that works on building and introducing skills. We love when beginners get involved, as it is a chance to pass on a love of cheer to a new person, as it did for all of us. We also encourage people that have experience to progress their knowledge with our higher level teams. We also ensure everyone is comfortable with what they’re doing by having multiple teams; a lower level competitive team, a higher level competitive team and a team purely for learning with a couple of performances throughout the year.

Trainings usually run on Monday Nights from 7:30pm-9:00pm.

Cricket (Men's, Women's)

Senior community cricket club that competes in the West Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association.

Located in the heart of South Perth and on the fringe of Curtin University.

Players of all ages and ability are welcome.

Training is located at Kent St High School nets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm (September till end of March)

Fencing (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

The Swordfish Fencing Club is dedicated to teaching the principles of Olympic fencing and developing the proper techniques. The club welcomes junior and senior fencers with beginner courses available if you are new to the sport.

Training times

The Fencing Club’s training season runs from February to November during Curtin’s teaching weeks each semester. For specific dates visit Curtin’s academic calendar online or visit the clubs website.

Floorball (Men's)

Curtin University are pleased to announce an association partnership with Perth Oilers Floorball Club.

Perth Oilers Floorball Club was established in 2019 and will compete in the Floorball WA Summer League, which runs from October through to March.

The club train from 7pm-8:30pm on a Wednesday evening at Canningvale College.

The Curtin Football Club is a community club providing provide football (soccer) to residents of Curtin and the surrounding community. Curtin Football Club is a very multicultural club with members from all over the world. There are a number of different teams that cater for all levels of male, female and junior players so no matter what level you wish to play, Curtin Football Club has an option for you.

Futsal (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

Curtin Footballista FC is a Futsal Sports Club established in 2016 and competing in WA’s State Futsal Leage (Pro Futsal).

The club supports all age groups from juniors (under 8, under 11, under 15, under 18) as well as senior Men and Women squads.

With Futsal being a team sport, Footballista aimes to be a family friendly environment for the younger players and a competitive environment for those aiming to reach the highest levels.

Training is at the Curtin Stadium on Tuesday evenings from 8pm-10pm.

Hockey (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

The Curtin University Hockey Club was formed in 1998 through the merging of the Curtin Trinity Tigers and the Pirates Hockey Club, with the dominant orange colour remaining.

Curtin University Hockey Club is a Curtin University based club started to promote and develop the game of hockey both on the Curtin campus and in the wider community. Giving members the opportunity to relax and socialise through an organized sporting club structure or pursue their sport to the highest level.

Curtin University Hockey Club promotes fitness and encourages participation allowing members to interact both on and off the playing field. The inclusion of junior teams allows the promotion of Curtin University as an option for further study.

The club welcomes men and female players of all levels from junior’s to senior players.

Training times

The training season runs from March to November with all training times and locations available on the club website.

Premier league training times are one hour on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings between either 6:30-7:30pm, 7:30-8:30pm or 8:30-9:30pm. Training times for premier league’s follow a 6 week rotational schedule set by Hockey Western Australia. All times and dates are available on the calendar and are held at Perth Hockey Stadium or Edinburgh South Oval.

Junior training sessions are Mondays 3:30-5:30pm at PHS

Judo (Men's, Women's)

Judo is an Olympic sport recognised across the world.

The Curtin University Judo Club is the place to be for those learning Judo while improving standing and ground fighting techniques.

The Judo Club is aimed at university students of all levels that study at Curtin, but is open to staff, alumni and community members looking to improve their strength and fitness.

They have also introduced a junior program, for the wider community.

The training season runs from January to November with training sessions twice per week.

Karate (Men's, Women's)

What better way to supplement your academic achievement than exercising while learning new karate skills including self-defence, martial art strategies and cultural aspects? The Curtin Karate Club is one of the oldest Curtin sports club, established in 1971 by founder Eric Ho, who remains the chief instructor of the Club.

With Sensei Eric’s experience as former National AKF deputy president (1999-2006), state president (1989-2012), State Kata Coach, Oceania Referee and WA State team competitor (1983-1986), the club is able to cover various aspects of karate including self-defence, fitness, sports, weapons and karate principles/philosophy.

The Club also has several senior instructors who are dedicated to providing a safe, fun and friendly environment for our members to learn. Beginners are welcomed any time!

The Curtin Karate Club train at Curtin Stadium Dome on Tuesdays and Thursdays (18:30-20:00) excluding public holidays and Christmas break.

To join the club the fees start from $60 per month for students and $80 for non-students.

Kendo (Men's, Women's)

The Kendo Club started in 2001 and aims to challenge it’s members to constantly improve their skills through training and correct instruction.

If you have never played before, the Kendo Club runs beginners courses all year round!

The Curtin Kendo Club trains throughout the year from January to December. With an 8 week beginners course commencing early March until August.

Netball (Women's)

The Curtin Panthers Netball Club provides an environment for women to play competitive netball in a social and friendly atmosphere.

The club is made up of current students and alumni.

Games are held on Saturday afternoon’s at Mathew’s Netball Centre in Wembley throughout the season.

Rowing (Men's, Women's)

The Curtin University Boat Club has been running since 1969 and is a social rowing club with a number of competitive events held throughout the year.

CUBC is a club whose members love, practice and promote rowing. Members train socially and and compete in regattas against other uni’s and rowing clubs.

The Club encourages anyone to join regardless of age, fitness level or ability. Rowing is a great sport and there’s nothing quite like being out on the water watching the sunrise!

Training times

The Curtin University Boat Club trains from April to September. Training sessions run seven days a week from 5.00 am to 7.30 pm. Refer to the club website for all training times.

Rugby (Men's, Women's, Colts)

The Curtin Uni Rugby Union Club, affectionately known as the Goats, is one of the longest-running Curtin Uni Sports Clubs having being established back in 1969!

The Goats pride themselves on its inclusive, friendly and social atmosphere and encourages players of all levels and abilities to join, from the first-timer right through to the elite player. They have three men’s senior grades competing in WA’s Premier Grade Competition, alongside a women’s and colts (under 20s) team and are home to Perth’s first LGBTQI+ rugby team, the Perth Rams.

The rugby club is open to all players, so you don’t have to be a current Curtin Student or Alumni to play.

Shorinji Kempo (Men's, Women's)

Shorinji Kempo is a dynamic self-defense martial art based on natural body movements. It is characterized by defense and counter attacks; utilizing combinations of strikes and joint manipulation techniques designed to allow a weaker defender to control a stronger attacker through an understanding of body structure and dynamics.

The essence of Shorinji Kempo practice is the development of a healthy mind, healthy body, and self defense. Shorinji does not rely on strength, it is a practical form of self defense. The Curtin Shorinji Kempo Club concentrates on mutual respect and understanding through cooperative training.

The club is run by Chief Instructor Craig Foley who has over 19 years of extensive training in Shorinji Kempo in Australia and in New Zealand.

Martial art styles differ from each other so come try us out. The first 2 sessions are free.

Ultimate Frisbee (Men's, Women's)

The Curtin Ultimate Club provides a club for students, staff, alumni and community members to participate in social, inter-varsity, local and interstate ultimate competitions.

Curtin Ultimate assist in the running of the Curtin Stadium Social Sports program on a Monday evening and separate to that, are training to compete in the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships in Nelson Bay in October.

Never played ultimate frisbee before? Not a problem! All ability levels are welcome to come down and play. This game is a whole lot of fun, so come down and attend a training session!

The Social Sports competition takes place on a Monday evening throughout the Uni Semester.

Curtin Ultimate’s team training sessions run from 4pm to 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Semester 2.

Volleyball (Men's, Women's, Junior's)

Curtin University are pleased to announce an association partnership with the Reds Volleyball Club.

The Reds Volleyball Club is a newly established indoor volleyball club that offers male and female athletes with the opportunity to compete in Western Australia’s premier indoor volleyball competitions. The Reds are currently based at Aquinas College in Salter Point.

The Club was established in 2018 as a result of growing calls for a new indoor volleyball club in Perth’s south of the river area. In the Club’s inaugural season, 122 volleyballers competed with the Reds. 5 Super League teams and 7 Junior League teams were entered into the Western Australian Volleyball League in the Clubs first season in the competition.

In 2019, the Reds will compete in the reformatted Western Australian Volleyball League (WAVL) State League competition. The State League is the most senior indoor volleyball competition in Western Australia that showcases local and international talent. The Club is fielding 8 State League teams in the WAVL Divisions and 9 Junior League teams in the WAVL Junior League to assist emerging volleyballers with their development and transition from junior to senior grades of the sport.
